SENSORY MOTOR DEVELOPMENT

WHAT IS IT?

S M D is the growth process through which the newborn child progresses, beginning with crawling on the stomach, creeping on hands and knees, to standing and developing gross to fine motor skills which directly affect the physical and intellectual growth of the individual. If any of these stages are skipped, interrupted or neglected in the developmental process, through any variety of circumstances, the "normal" development is interrupted or blocked. Under "normal" circumstances individuals go through the birthing and growing process moving through developmental stages that lead the individual towards a "normal" functional existence. Due to unexpected events, sometimes these developmental stages are missed. Most medical procedures are not prepared to deal with these "abnormal" conditions and often give little to no hope that the child/individual can reach his or her full physical and mental potential. Victims of drowning, auto accidents resulting in head injuries and individuals suffering strokes also manifest similar symptoms of the “blocked or interrupted patterns” found in “normal” individuals.

CAN THE CONDITION BE REVERSED OR IMPROVED? YES!

There are successfully implemented treatments that provide the opportunity for the "hurt" individual to reprocess or move through the needed developmental stages. These treatments are not mysterious nor do they involve use of pharmaceutical medications. In fact some of the "drugs" prescribed by doctors and psychiatrists are at the root of the problem and only mask rather than correct the problems.

IS THERE A TIME LIMIT? NO!

From all scientific information, as humans we do not fully utilize our total brain. In fact some scientists believe that we use less than 10% of our brain's full capacity! The following may help your understanding concerning loss of oxygen. The condition suffered by stroke victims is very similar to those suffered by a newborn child that has experienced brain damage due to loss of oxygen. This loss of oxygen will damage some brain cells. The damage to brain cell tissue is often the cause of what the medical world describes as "retarded." There are other problems such as spinal meningitis, cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, autism, attention deficit disorder, hyperactive disorder, etc., which cause similar developmental problems in the individual. These and other related conditions can be and have been successfully treated by the process developed by Gene Lewis, C.D.N.O. and other Sensory Motor Developmentalists.

IN SHORT, the process involves teaching the remaining healthy brain cells to take over the functions of the damaged cells. Professionally trained Sensory Motor Developmentalists do this with specific programs that are individually designed for the needs of each individual under consideration.
